Latest Ōtaki Historical Journal launched

The latest in the long-running series of Ōtaki Historical Journals was launched on Sunday 16 November at the Ōtaki Museum.

Historical research involves creativity, analysis and lots of detection work. The stories in

volume 46 have been written, photographed and put together by the people of the Ōtaki community, for our community. Editor Sarah Maclean says, ‘Two articles have been written in both te reo Māori and English – this is a first for the journal. One of them is about Whakatupuranga Rua Mano ǀ Generation 2000, the iwi revitalisation programme which has transformed lives here and all over Aotearoa New Zealand.’

The journal highlights some of the talented people in our area, from long ago and not so long ago. We’ve been telling these stories since the very first journal back in 1978. All this is great for those who want to find out about their whānau and families, or to research how people lived and worked in the past.

You can buy the journal at Books & Co at Ōtaki Railway, and at three places downtown: the Post Shop, the Ōtaki Bookshop and the Museum. Or order it online at www.otakiheritage.org.nz
