Our next museum exhibition presents stories of Ōtaki Beach.
These include the early 19 th century arrival of Te Rauparaha and Ngāti Raukawa and life at
the beach, and later the impacts of the arrival of whalers, traders and missionaries. Also
covered are the changes in the area: types of holidays, housing developments, beach
activities including the Surf Club, the natural environment and the dangers of the sea.
The exhibition opens to the public on Saturday 9 March.
