Collections

The museum holds documents, photographs and other artefacts that tell the stories of Ōtaki's people and events from the past. These include:

War Service records for individuals who served in World War 1 and World War 2
Scrapbooks of press cuttings going back 100 years
Oral history records
Maps – many original, hand drawn – from the Tararua to the sea; from Te Horo to Manakau
Photographs and exhibits from previous exhibitions
Photographs – originals and digital copies (available in Past Perfect)
A range of artefacts donated by members of the community (includes adzes and small farm machinery such as early seed drills)

The Small Family Collection
- Photos and domestic artefacts from the family of William and Mary Small who lived in Ōtaki Gorge Road from 1862
 The Wallace Collection
- Photos and farming artefacts from the family of James Howard Wallace, born in 1854, grandson of Tamihana Te Rauparaha
